What Did Serfs Wear?
Most peasants wore plain clothing made from heavy wool to keep them warm during the winter, or linen that kept them cool during the summer. With that they wore a straw hat to protect their heads on hot days. They also wore leather working boots, and men even had a leather flask for carrying ale into the fields.
Women also wore a head garment called a veil. For a grown woman to show her hair was not allowed in public and was disgraceful. |
